What version is my DWG file?
Choose a .DWG or .DXF: we read its version here, in your browser. The file is not uploaded.
Only the first bytes of the file are read, on your device.

Questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The page reads only the first bytes of a .DWG, or the start of a .DXF, on your device. Nothing is sent to us until you open the drawing in the viewer.
Where is the version written?
The first six bytes of a .DWG are its format code, for example AC1032. A .DXF keeps the same code in the $ACADVER variable of its header.
My file is older than R13. Can I open it?
As .DWG, not yet. Saved as .DXF it opens, from any release.
Why does the version matter?
Every program reads .DWG files only up to the newest version it knows. The code tells you which programs can open the file.
